Rehabilitation (Recovery)

Where one is temporarily or permanently incapacitated, or dies as a result of a road crash, especially if the one happens to be the bread winner of the family, a trail of social problems is unleashed on the society. Dependants could drop out of school, misery, hunger and poverty could force them into activities and behaviors that are inimical to the well being of the society. This program therefore focuses on activities aimed at ameliorating the challenges faced by surviving victims and their families in general.

For many road crash victims, the road through recovery/rehabilitation is not an easy one. It is usually a very long and complex process. It is therefore very necessary that at this stage, surviving direct victims and their families are supported educationally, psychologically and financially, to enable them tide through the new challenges that life in their unfolding circumstances would offer them.  RCVF therefore follows up the victims and their families through their recovery period and process, rendering them the necessary assistance towards their educational, psychological and financial needs.

The thrust of this RCVF program is mainly directed at assisting disadvantaged victims especially women, the elderly, and children. Forms of assistance include: 1) Medical/Occupational Rehabilitation. 2)Financial stipend if the bread winner is affected. 3)Placement in school, and/or school fees for surviving children. 4)Advocacy for the enactment of laws specifying the rights to fair compensation for road crash victims, and free legal srvices to indegent victims.

rehab2Medical Rehabilitation

There is the dire need to provide post-crash/post hospitalization care in the form of medical and affiliated health services, particularly directed at handling emergent consequential health conditions which usually plague surviving victims. This is aimed at assisting their recovery and well being. Where any form of medical treatment/intervension, pain management, or physiotherapy is required at this phase, RCVF enlists the services of specilists to take care of the victims. RCVF also continues to provide the necessary psychological counselling and financial support to them, to enable them tide through the new challenges that life in their unfolding circumstances offers them.

rehab3Occupational Rehabilitation

RCVF employs the services of occupational rehabilitation experts to help the injured victim return to work in his former place of work or a new work place. The degree of injury/injuries sustained is evaluated and the appropriate level and type of work the victim could be engaged in is determined, putting into consideration the present functional psychomotor and cognitive capability of the victim.

The unexpected, abrupt incapacitation or death of a family bread-winner in a road crash, could leave the surviving dependants so hopelessly devastated and psychologically traumatized. Dependants could drop out of school, misery, hunger and poverty could force them into activities and behaviors that are inimical to the well being of the society. RCVF therefore ensures that school-age dependants are enrolled in schools and those in school do not drop out, while financial as well as psychological counselling support for surviving dependants will be sustained.
