Prevention : Education/Enlightenment

Every year, so many lives are lost through road traffic crashes because people do not know the right things to do while using the highways. Ignorance of the laws and the rules of the road and not knowing how best to use the highways constitute the greatest threat to all road users. However, when motorists and other road users, equipped with proper knowledge of how to behave and interact with others on our highways, act appropriately, a much safer driving environment is proactively created and road crashes are consequently prevented. Education/enlightenment is the greatest tool for the prevention of road crashes. A major goal of RCVF is to educate, enlighten as many people as possible on the appropriate ways to use the highways; thus positively affect their road behaviors and reduce drastically incidences of road traffic crashes. This program is therefore directed at the prevention of road crashes through our direct and indirect educational activities. RCVF will also vigorously keep advocating for the enactment of laws specifying the rights to fair and appropriate compensation for road crash victims.

Incontrovertible data indicate that a very high percentage of all road crashes is as a result of driver error. In the fight against road traffic crash (RTC), the need to access the minds of drivers and modify their road behavior/attitude is very vital. RCVF collaborates with entities specialized in the provision of formal education for new drivers-in-training to enhance the reach/spread of such education, as well as its curriculum uniformity. There is also ample provision for the retraining of licensed drivers.

Informal settings often provide veritable, relaxed platforms for the impartation of valuable education. Such platforms like TV and Radio shows, specially creatively packaged to be entertaining, are utilized by RCVF to educate and re-educate both drivers and non-drivers/other road users on the safe and effective use of the roads.
